The Story of Steven Connacher
This is the inspiring story of another Bing Blazer who has used OCR to turn their life around.
Two years ago Steven would be the first to admit that he wasn’t fit and and he really needed to change his lifestyle and improve his health.
This is when Steven found obstacle course racing (OCR).
Fast forward two years and Steven now has a a fitter, healthier body, with a Bing Blazer tattoo!
The moment I knew I had to change
“A few years ago I had an embarrassing moment at an amusement park where I couldn’t fit onto one of the rides my son wanted me to go on. I was also getting loads of stomach pains due to an unhealthy lifestyle, eating and drinking in excess”.
With Steven’s health decreasing and his weight increasing to over 20 stone, he knew enough was enough.
“That January I met a guy call Mikey from the Bing Blazer”.
The Bing Blazer
Despite never having heard of an OCR the concept appealed to Steven. It seemed like a fun, fitness challenge, but he had his doubts about whether or not he could do it.
“After a bit (a lot) of convincing I decided to sign up for the Bing Blazer. I then started to change my eating habits with some running and the weight started to drop off. To help support me in this my wife, Kim, decided to join me for the race. This started off with the whole family going on regular family training sessions, including the kids”.
The Connacher family had a goal and they were determined to achieve it
“We went for walks, trail runs and a few gym sessions with my wife. With a lot of hard work I was delight to lose 5 stone, in weight, and I felt great. Now my wife, my children and I are all hooked on OCR events.”
Catching the Bug
From that point on there was no going back for Steven: “Bing Blazer was my first ever OCR and is one of the reasons why I'm hooked. Through OCR events we have met so many great people and made new friends. OCR is not just about the race, we are a community and one big family.”
The Scottish OCR community has had a great effect on Steven, so much so that he decided to get not one, but three tattoos of races he has done since his first ever Bing Blazer.
As well as our logo he has also had the Spartan Race and Tartan Warrior logos inked also! He told us that, “All my tattoos have a special meaning and I wanted to add to my collection with another special tattoo.”
Well done to you Steven and the whole Connacher family. The Bing Blazer obstacle course race is delighted to have be part of your journey and we can’t wait to see the you all again on the 21st May 2016. Thank you for letting us share your inspiring story with the Scottish OCR community.
I think it is safe to say that this really is what OCR and fun runs should be about, becoming healthier with friends and family and most importantly, HAVING FUN IN THE PROCESS.
It is great to hear that Steven will be coming back to the Bing Blazer this year along with his wife Kim.
If you wish to get a tattoo to replicate your love for Bing Blazer then you don’t have to get the real thing, as we may have something!
